My Own Dear Wife, I am in more trouble and I believe I shall always be in trouble as long as I live. After having been stopped as Los Pinos, I had fondly hoped that when I started again I should get through, but the thing is different. I left Los Pinos on my birthday, the 17th Mar., and arrived at Los Algodones on the 19th, where I received orders from Gen Couleter to return to the place, with my company, and [illegible] ordered as a member of a General [illegible] at this place. So you see I getting toward home very slowly. I have written Lt. Col. A[illegible]- by this mail, asking him to make some effort to have me appointed, I am to be his Adjutant, so I may know what to do; now if I stay here I may not see you for the next six months, and if I send for you I may be ordered to Fort Union the next day, when I should meet you in the road, but if the Colonel insists on my being his Adjutant, why I will [illegible] immediately. I tell you I am sick of this nonsense, and if I see no prospect of meeting you pretty soon, I will quit the service.
[illegible] friends at Fort Union. I wish you would write me a few kind words, and p[illegible], Kisses for the children. George.
